I have this very large and diverse dataset (excel spreadsheets) of crop-related data. The data contains generic things like the crop name, the location it was collected, the country it originally came from and so on. But then it starts getting more specific, with things like the Genus, the Species and other crop-specific things like maybe even the "height" of the plant. I want to convert all this spreadsheet data into RDF so that I can query it with SPARQL and benefit from the Linked Data initiative. However, I don't know what vocabularies to use with this data. Is there a vocabulary for crop related data? Shall I still use FOAF for generic things such as "name" for the name of the crop, or should I always refer to a more specific vocabulary? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks |

wurvoc.org contains a collection of several food and agriculture-related RDF vocabularies that might be of interest to you. Ok but my question was more in the sense of trying to understand where people would look for specific RDF vocabularies, and if they should still use generic FOAF:name compared to more specific Plant:name vocabulary. Are they stuck with having to Google them on their own, or is there a central entity that tries to aggregate them all? 1
Falcons Ontology Search provides an aggregated view over ontologies (http://ws.nju.edu.cn/falcons/ontologysearch/index.jsp). Searching Linked Open Vocabularies (http://lov.okfn.org/dataset/lov/) might help as well. |

You might want to have a look at bioontology.org which is specialized towards ontologies in the bio domain. |
